BMW G87 M2 MP Style Rear Bumper Fins – Prepreg Carbon Fiber

These MP Style rear bumper fins set slatted carbon into the two deep recesses at the back corners of the BMW G87 M2, then carry it on as a slim blade beneath each one. They copy the look of BMW’s M Performance carbon rear attachments in prepreg dry carbon fiber; they are not the genuine BMW part.

The look

Each trim lays three horizontal slats across its recess, stacked like louvers, right beside the gloss-black strip that holds the vertical reflector. Below the recess the same piece narrows into a long blade that tracks the bumper’s bottom edge out toward the rear wheel and finishes in a point.

The slats turn each corner into a layered, vent-like shape that suits the squared-off lines of the M2’s tail. The photos show a tight twill weave under a gloss clear coat, and the leading edge of every slat catches a bright line of light.

On the red M2 in the main photo the carbon corners stand out hard against the paint; on the white car in the gallery they become the sharpest detail of the rear.

Made for the G87 M2

BMW built the G87 M2’s tail around strong horizontal surfaces and calls the vertical reflectors sunk into the outer corners of the rear bumper a classic M cue. Those recesses are where this pair goes.

The M2 runs the S58 twin-turbo inline-six it shares with the M3 and M4: 453 hp at launch, 473 hp after its first update. That update kept the squared-off bumper details, which BMWBLOG says set the M2 apart from the bigger M4.

Why this one

The genuine part is BMW’s M Performance carbon rear attachment, sold per side as 51125A66161 (left) and 51125A66162 (right). BMW makes each side in two pieces, a slatted top panel and a separate lower strip, bonded in with liquid adhesive that isn’t in the kit, with the weave lined up across a narrow gap.

This MP Style pair molds the slats and the blade as one piece per side, so there is no joint to align, and it costs well under the price of BMW’s parts. What it doesn’t carry is BMW’s name and part number.

Some trims for these recesses are sold in wet-laid carbon. This pair is prepreg dry carbon fiber.

Highlights

Living with it

Both trims sit on the face of the bumper. In the photos a thin line of paint still shows beneath each blade, so the pair stays within the bumper’s outline instead of hanging below it.

Nothing covers the round parking-sensor eyes in the painted bumper. These are styling parts, and no airflow or downforce claim is made for them.

• The cars in the photos wear more carbon than this pair: three-fin trims on the rear wheel arches, carbon trunk spoilers and, on the red M2, a carbon rear diffuser. Those are separate parts, not included.
