Replacement caps or covers?
- Replacement caps: the performance-style caps for the G80/G82/G83 and G87 swap for the factory caps, and the G8X set includes a pry tool. The OEM-style X3M/X4M caps replace the originals without drilling. The G20 M-style caps are a full replacement, but you remove the mirror glass and unscrew the cap from behind, then move the indicator across.
- Covers: the F80/F82 set bonds over the original housing with an adhesive such as Tigerseal, and the W206/W223 Mercedes covers fit over the factory housings.
Styles and options by car
The G20/G22 mirror caps have the most choice: OEM, M3 or M5 style, or a full M3-style conversion with the base, in full dry carbon or ABS with a carbon skin, for LHD or RHD. A second G20/G22 option, the AutoTecknic G8X-style Version II, doesn't fit the M340i or M440i facelift. Other cars have one or two styles: M style for the G42 2 Series, M5 style for the 2025-on G90 M5 and G99 Touring, XM style or plain dry carbon for the X5 G05 including the facelift, and OEM style for the X5M F95. M2 owners can go straight to the G87 M2 mirror caps.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the M3, M4 and M2 mirror caps left-hand drive only?
On the G80 M3, G82/G83 M4 and G87 M2, the driver's mirror is smaller than the passenger's, so the caps are shaped for left-hand-drive cars. Every US car is LHD, so these fit, but they won't suit a right-hand-drive import.
Do the G20 mirror caps also fit the 4 Series?
Yes for the two current options: the G20/G22 caps list the G20 3 Series and G22 4 Series, and the AutoTecknic Version II covers list the G20, G22 and G26, except the M340i and M440i facelift models. The older M-style replacement caps are listed for the G20/G21 3 Series only.
How hard is it to change BMW mirror caps?
It depends on the car. The G8X set includes a pry tool for lifting off the factory caps. On the G20 you remove the mirror glass and undo screws from behind, rather than forcing the cap off. Bonded covers need careful surface prep. If in doubt, have a shop do it, and test-fit the caps before they go on.
Will the RS3 mirror caps keep lane assist?
Yes. The pre-preg caps for the 2025-on RS3 facelift are the lane assist version and keep the factory function working. They are marked Coming soon, so ask us about timing before you order.
