BMW G80 M3 & G82/G83 M4 CSL Style Grille for Cars without Radar – Prepreg Dry Carbon Fiber

This CSL style grill gives the BMW G80 M3 and G82/G83 M4 the open, stripped-back nose of the M4 CSL, in prepreg dry carbon fiber with a gloss finish. It is for cars without the front radar sensor; cars with Active Cruise Control need the with-radar version. It follows the CSL’s design; it is not BMW’s genuine grille.

The look

The factory double bars give way to an open frame. A slim bar crosses the top of each kidney, a wide flat band spans both at mid-height, and angled bars below it form a shallow cradle, all tied together by a center spine.

Both kidneys carry the same bars top to bottom, with no gap held open for a radar sensor: the quickest way to tell it from the with-radar version. Under a deep gloss clear coat, the twill weave runs along every bar and across the band.

On the mint green car in the photos, the carbon sits back inside the body-colored surrounds, and the band draws a dark stripe across the nose.

Made for the M3 and M4

The G80 M3 Sedan, G82 M4 Coupe and G83 M4 Convertible each wear a large, deep, frameless kidney grille, all black from the factory, with the M double bars set horizontally to carry the model badge.

BMWBLOG called it “the most divisive design cue in the brand’s history”, yet BMW left it untouched at the LCI (facelift). The CSL look comes from the 1,000-car M4 CSL, whose grille BMW gave fewer slats with wide gaps to feed air to the radiators.

Why this one

BMW sells the M4 CSL grille itself as a genuine part (51138085968), with red accent lines and an M4 CSL emblem. It has no cutout for the front radar either.

This grill keeps your own badge and trades the red trim for exposed carbon. Some cheaper CSL-style grilles are molded ABS plastic, painted gloss black or given a carbon-look finish; this one is prepreg dry carbon with the weave on show.

Living with it

Many shops take the front bumper off for a grille swap on these cars. Going back to stock is the same job, so keep the factory grille. The two round openings in the band are for the front parking sensors.

Check before you buy

• Cars with the Driving Assistant Professional package (option code 05AU) have an Active Cruise Control radar behind the grille. This version would block it, so those cars need the with-radar version.
• Not sure which you have? The radar shows as a black square panel low in the factory grille. Check your build sheet, or ask us before ordering.

Installation

• Bumper. Many shops take it off for a grille swap

• Drilling. None on a car without radar.
• Badge. Moves over from your factory grille; not included.
