The BMW M2 xDrive is the first M2 with all-wheel drive. BMW revealed it in June 2026 as a 2027 model, and production started in August 2026. It keeps the 473 hp inline-six and the G87 body, comes only with the 8-speed automatic, and BMW rates it at 3.6 seconds to 60 mph. That’s 0.3 seconds quicker than the rear-drive M2. Below are BMW’s numbers side by side, and what we know about fitting G87 M2 carbon parts to it.
Key takeaways
- The 2027 BMW M2 xDrive starts at $73,600 plus $1,350 destination, per BMW USA.
- It has the same 473 hp and 443 lb-ft as the rear-drive automatic, and it runs 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds.
- It weighs 3,988 lb. That’s 121 lb more than BMW’s figure for the 2025 rear-drive automatic.
- Length, width and tire sizes match the rear-drive car. A June 2026 report says it looks the same, with no xDrive badges.
- Our G87 body parts should match it, but no listing names the xDrive yet. Ask us before ordering.
What is the BMW M2 xDrive?
It’s a new version of the G87 M2 with BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW’s US press release came out on June 2, 2026. It calls the car the 2027 BMW M2 with M xDrive and says this is the first time M xDrive is offered on the M2.
The rear-drive M2 stays on sale. MotorWeek notes that xDrive comes only with the eight-speed automatic, so if you want the six-speed manual, you still need the rear-drive car.
BMW builds the xDrive at its San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, the same plant that has built the G87 M2 since launch. Production of the xDrive started in August 2026.

M2 xDrive vs rear-drive M2: the numbers
All figures are BMW’s own. The rear-drive numbers come from BMW’s 2025 M2 press release. The height for the rear-drive car comes from BMW’s 2022 launch release.

BMW also quotes a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds for the xDrive when measured with a one-foot rollout. The rear-drive price is BMW’s 2025 figure, so check your dealer for 2027 rear-drive pricing.
How M xDrive works in the M2
The system is built to feel like a rear-drive car most of the time. This is how BMW describes it in its global press release:
- In normal driving, power goes only to the rear wheels.
- When the rear tires can’t put down any more power, a multi-plate clutch in the transfer case sends drive to the front wheels.
- An Active M Differential splits drive between the two rear wheels.
- In the M Setup menu you can pick a 2WD mode with DSC switched off. Then all the torque goes to the rear wheels.
BMW also says the xDrive gets “specially developed chassis tuning”, but it doesn’t list the changes. The global release adds that its engine uses BMW M Ignite, a new pre-chamber ignition system that BMW is fitting to its M inline-sixes from mid-2026. BMW’s M Ignite release from May 2026 says it comes with turbochargers with variable turbine geometry and a higher compression ratio, and that power stays the same. BMW’s US release for the xDrive doesn’t mention M Ignite at all.
What BMW didn’t change: body, size and looks
On paper, the outside is the same car. Length and width match the 2023 launch figures to the tenth of an inch. The 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheel sizes and the tire sizes are the same too. The only body number that moves is height: 55.3 inches for the xDrive against 55.2 inches at launch. BMW doesn’t explain the difference.
South African paper The Citizen reports that the xDrive looks the same as the rear-drive car, with no xDrive badges on the trunk lid or front fenders, and an unchanged interior.
The only visual change in BMW’s release is a paint option: Borusan Turkish Blue, a BMW Individual color, is offered on the M2 for the first time with this launch.

Do G87 M2 carbon parts fit the M2 xDrive?
We expect the body parts to match, but we haven’t listed any part for the xDrive by name yet. Ask us before ordering.
Our G87 M2 listings cover model years 2023 to 2027. None of them mentions the xDrive. We don’t claim a fit on a new model until a listing says so. Text us your car’s build date at 609-525-4865 before you order.
The M3 gives us a hint. BMW sells the G80 M3 with rear drive and as the M3 Competition with M xDrive. Our MP style rear diffuser for the G80 M3 and G82 M4 says it brings carbon to “base, Competition and M xDrive cars alike”. That’s why we expect the M2 to work the same way. Expecting isn’t confirming, though.
Our fitment guarantee still applies to every order: “If a part doesn’t fit the vehicle listed on its product page, contact us before installing and we’ll cover the return shipping for a refund or replacement.”
Body parts: lips, skirts, diffusers, spoilers, trunks
These bolt to the bumpers, the sills and the trunk lid, and BMW hasn’t announced any change to those panels for the xDrive. Our SPL1 front lip uses the factory mounting points with no drilling. Our 3-piece rear diffuser fits with the OEM hardware in place of the factory insert. The OEM++ rear spoiler, our best-selling M2 part, sits along the trunk lid’s trailing edge.

Under the car: guards and skid plates
This is the area we’d check most closely. The xDrive has a transfer case that sends drive to the front wheels when needed, which is hardware the rear-drive M2 doesn’t have. Our oil cooler guard and the carbon skid plate both sit under the front of the car. Send us a photo of your car’s underside before you order either one.

Engine bay: new engine tech inside
The xDrive’s engine uses M Ignite, with new variable-geometry turbochargers. BMW hasn’t said whether anything you can see under the hood changed. None of our engine bay listings, like the carbon air intake and engine covers, mentions M Ignite engines. If your M2 was built from August 2026, ask us first.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an all-wheel-drive BMW M2?
Yes. The 2027 BMW M2 with M xDrive is the first M2 with all-wheel drive. BMW revealed it in June 2026, and production started in August 2026 at its plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
How much does the BMW M2 xDrive cost?
BMW USA lists a base MSRP of $73,600 plus $1,350 for destination and handling. Check with your dealer for the price of a specific car.
Can you get the M2 xDrive with a manual?
No. The M2 xDrive comes only with the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic. The six-speed manual stays available on the rear-drive M2.
Is the M2 xDrive faster than the rear-drive M2?
To 60 mph, yes. BMW rates the xDrive at 3.6 seconds, against 3.9 seconds for the 2025 rear-drive automatic and 4.1 seconds for the manual. Top speed is the same: 155 mph, or 177 mph with the M Driver’s Package.
Can you turn off all-wheel drive on the M2 xDrive?
Yes, in a way. BMW says the M Setup menu offers a 2WD mode with DSC switched off, which sends all the torque to the rear wheels. In normal driving it already sends power only to the rear until the rear tires need help.
Do G87 M2 carbon parts fit the M2 xDrive?
We expect the body parts to match, since BMW lists the same length, width and tire sizes. None of our listings names the xDrive yet, so ask us before ordering. Parts under the car and in the engine bay need the most care.
Should you wait, or order parts now?
If you’ve ordered an M2 xDrive, you don’t need to wait for the car to plan the look. Pick your parts on our G87 M2 page, then text us before checkout. Start with front lips, side skirts, diffusers, spoilers and trunks. For the order we’d fit them in on a rear-drive car, read our G87 M2 carbon mods guide. For the spoiler choice, see spoiler vs wing and our G87 M2 spoiler and trunk guide.
Most orders ship within 5 business days. Returns are accepted within 14 days on uninstalled parts, and our warranty covers defects for one year. Questions about your build? Text us at 609-525-4865.
