If you’re shopping for a G80 M3 spoiler, start with the body style. The M3 is a sedan and the M4 is a coupe. Their trunk lids are shaped differently, so a spoiler made for one won’t fit the other. Even BMW sells its own carbon trunk lip for the sedan only. Once you’ve got the right car, it comes down to looks: a low OEM-style lip, a ducktail, a taller high kick, a CS-style lip, a full wing, or a CSL-style trunk that replaces the whole lid.
We’ll cover what we sell for each car, how each part mounts, what BMW’s own parts cost, and what a spoiler actually does at road speeds.
Key takeaways
- G80 M3 and G82 M4 spoilers aren’t interchangeable. Buy the one listed for your car.
- Our M3 high kick and LCI MP-style spoilers mount with double-sided tape and no drilling. Our M4 ducktail uses supplied self-tapping screws.
- Our trunk spoilers start at $275. Wings and CSL-style trunks cost over $1,200 (October 2026).
- BMW’s M Performance carbon lip for the G80 (51628086380) lists at $1,089.60 at BimmerWorld.
- None of our listings publish a downforce figure, so treat a trunk spoiler as a styling part first.
Why a G80 M3 spoiler won’t fit a G82 M4
A trunk spoiler has to follow the curve of the lid it sits on. The M3’s sedan lid and the M4’s coupe lid are different panels, so every spoiler is built for one or the other. BMW works the same way: its M Performance carbon rear lip is listed as a “small rear carbon lip for G80 sedan”, with no M4 version under that part number.
Some of our M3 listings also name the G20 3 Series sedan. Our best-selling spoiler, the G80 M3 / G20 LCI high kick ducktail, says it fits “the BMW G80 M3 and BMW 3 series G20 Lci.” BMW’s carbon lip (51628086380) is also sold for both the G80 M3 and the G20 3 Series. Don’t count on a 3 Series fit unless the listing names it.
If you have an M4 convertible, there’s one more thing to check. Our G83 M Style spoiler is “designed specifically for the G83 M4 Convertible.” If you have a G83 and want a different style, text us before you order.

Spoiler styles, from subtle to loud
Here’s what each name means in our listings:
- OEM style or lip: a low strip that follows the factory trunk edge. Our G82 OEM Style spoiler is described as a “sleek, low-profile design.”
- Ducktail: the trailing edge sweeps up into a lip, like our G82 M4 ducktail.
- High kick: a taller ducktail. Our G80 M3 high kick ducktail is called an “aggressive high kick ducktail design” on its listing.
- CS style: named after the M3 CS, which BMW builds with an exposed carbon rear spoiler.
- MP style: named after BMW M Performance parts. Our G80 LCI MP Style spoiler has “raised outer sections and a defined center design.”
- Wing: a raised blade on stands. Our AD-style wing comes with “high-strength stands and mounting hardware.”

BMW M Performance and the factory CS and CSL designs
If you want a genuine BMW part, there are two for these cars.
- M Performance carbon rear lip, part number 51628086380. BimmerWorld lists it at $1,089.60, for the G80 M3 only.
- M Performance rear wing, part number 51192475051. The BimmerWorld listing prices it at $3,278.60 for the G80 M3, G82/G83 M4 and G22 4 Series, and suggests a model-specific adapter set and BMW’s spoiler adhesive kit with it.
The CS and CSL designs come from BMW’s special editions. BMW’s M3 CS press release lists an exposed carbon fibre rear spoiler among its carbon parts. The M4 CSL release goes further. Its CFRP trunk lid “weighs 15 lbs less” than the M4 Competition’s and “sports a prominent integral spoiler” that echoes the 2003 M3 CSL. Our CS-style and CSL-style parts copy those looks, but they aren’t made by BMW.

CSL-style trunks: replacing the whole lid
A CSL-style trunk is a full carbon trunk lid with the ducktail molded in, and it takes the place of your factory lid. Our G80 M3 CSL Style Trunk is “designed to replace the factory trunk” and has an “integrated lip spoiler.” On the M4 side, the G82 M4 CSL Trunk is listed as a “direct replacement for the factory BMW G82 M4 trunk.” We also sell a G82 M4 carbon trunk lid that follows the factory shape. For that one, the listing recommends professional installation “to ensure proper alignment, fitment, and adjustment of the trunk lid and factory hardware.”
Both the G82 M4 CSL Trunk and the G80/G20 CSL Trunk list 30-day shipping, while most of our other orders ship within 5 business days. You’ll find all of them on the trunks page.

How rear spoilers mount: tape or screws
The M3 high kick spoilers use 3M double-sided tape “without the need for drilling.” The LCI MP-style and G83 spoilers list “Drilling Required: No.” The M4 ducktail uses screws instead. Its listing says “all screw holes are predrilled and self tapper screws provided.” If you’d rather not put screws in your trunk, text us before you order.

For tape, 3M’s own guidance for its automotive attachment tapes says to avoid application temperatures below 60°F and to press the part down with a roller or firm hand pressure. The LCI MP-style listing adds that the trunk surface “should be thoroughly cleaned and properly prepared before installation.” And follow the instructions that come with the part.
Carbon or painted?
All of these parts ship in clear-coated carbon, and several listings describe a high-gloss, UV-resistant clear coat. If you want yours in body color, test-fit it before it goes to the paint shop. Painted or installed parts can’t be returned, and you have 14 days to return uninstalled parts. For the difference between pre-preg and cheaper wet-layup carbon, read our prepreg vs wet layup guide.
Does a rear spoiler do anything at road speeds?
Aerodynamic force goes up with the square of speed. NASA’s lift equation has lift varying with velocity squared, so at 35 mph a spoiler makes about a quarter of the force it makes at 70 mph. BMW does make that claim for one factory design: the M4 CSL’s integral spoiler “generates significant rear-axle downforce in dynamic driving situations.”
None of our spoiler listings publish a downforce figure, so we won’t claim one here. Buy a trunk spoiler because you like the way it looks. For the rest of the rear end, see our rear diffuser guide.
Frequently asked questions
Will a G80 M3 spoiler fit a G82 M4?
No. The M3 sedan and M4 coupe have different trunk lids, so spoilers are made for one or the other. A few of our listings cover both cars, but they have a separate G80 and G82 version that you pick when you order.
Do I have to drill my trunk to fit a spoiler?
Not for most of ours. Our G80 M3 high kick, G80 LCI MP-style and G83 spoilers mount with double-sided tape and list no drilling. Our G82 M4 ducktail comes with predrilled holes and self-tapping screws, so text us first if that’s a concern.
Can I install a rear spoiler myself?
Several of our listings recommend professional installation for alignment and adhesion. If you’re fitting it yourself, clean the trunk surface well, follow 3M’s 60°F minimum application temperature for its tapes, and follow the instructions that come with the part. A full replacement trunk lid is a bigger job, and our G82 M4 trunk lid listing recommends a pro for it.
Will an aftermarket spoiler void my BMW warranty?
The FTC says your warranty stays in effect if you use aftermarket parts. A manufacturer or dealer can deny coverage for damage an aftermarket part caused, but they have to prove the part caused it first.
Does a G82 M4 spoiler fit the G83 convertible?
Our G83 M Style spoiler is the one designed specifically for the G83 M4 Convertible. For any other M4 spoiler, text us your car before ordering.
What if the spoiler doesn’t fit?
If a part doesn’t fit the vehicle listed on its product page, contact us before installing and we’ll cover the return shipping for a refund or replacement. Our warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year.
Which G80 M3 spoiler should you choose?
For the most popular look on an M3, the G80 M3 / G20 LCI high kick ducktail is our best seller and installs with tape. For something lower, the G80 M3 CS Style spoiler sits close to the trunk edge. On an M4, start with the G82 M4 ducktail. For the biggest change, look at the MP-style rear wing or a CSL-style trunk. M2 owners can read our G87 M2 spoiler guide.
