Comparing the G20 carbon fiber mirror caps
- G20/G22 mirror caps: you pick the shape (OEM, M3 style or M5 style), the construction (full dry carbon or ABS with carbon) and the drive side. The fourth shape, a full change to M3 style with the base, goes beyond the cap itself, so ask us what's in the box if you're considering it.
- AutoTecknic G8X-style Version II: an M3/M4-inspired shape in pre-preg dry carbon cured in an autoclave, sold as a driver and passenger pair. AutoTecknic states that it doesn't fit the M340i or M440i facelift.
- M-style replacement caps: the older listing, described as real carbon fiber and made for the M Sport G20. They replace the whole cap and come with predrilled screw holes and self-tapping screws.
M340i owners: check pre-LCI or LCI
The M340i launched with its mirror caps finished in Cerium Grey metallic, and on a pre-LCI car any of these sets swaps that finish for carbon. The facelift arrived for the 2023 model year, and that's where caps need more care. The AutoTecknic listing rules out the M340i LCI, and the other listings don't mention the facelift at all. Swapping the caps
The M-style listing shows what the job involves on this car: the mirror glass comes out first, you undo the screws behind it, and the indicator light is screwed into the new cap. Don't lever the old cap off by force. We recommend a professional installer. The other listings don't give the steps, so ask if you'd like to know before ordering. Will these mirror caps fit my M340i LCI?
Not the AutoTecknic Version II set: its maker says it doesn't fit the M340i or M440i facelift. The G20/G22 caps and the M-style replacements don't mention the facelift in their listings, so we'd rather confirm than guess. What is the full change to M3 style with base?
It's the fourth shape option on the G20/G22 listing. The other shapes are caps only, while this one also includes the mirror base, for a more complete move to the M3 look. The listing doesn't detail what's in the box or how it goes on, so ask us before choosing it.
Should I order LHD or RHD mirror caps?
LHD for any car bought new in the US. The G20/G22 caps are sold in both versions, so select LHD at checkout; RHD is for right-hand-drive imports. The AutoTecknic and M-style listings have no drive-side option, so ask us first if your car is right-hand drive.
Are the ABS caps real carbon fiber?
They combine an ABS plastic body with carbon, rather than being carbon all the way through. If you want full carbon, choose the full dry carbon version of the G20/G22 caps, or the AutoTecknic set, which is pre-preg dry carbon. The M-style replacement caps are described as real carbon fiber.
